Hi,

We just move into tuscaloosa and had to leave all our furniture behind. We are on a fixed income and living from check to check.

We really need to find some cheap but preferred free furniture for our house to make it a home.

couch
end tables to sit next to couch
entertainment center
large tv (about 30 inch or more)
lots of shelving. (shelving for our records, video cassettes, CD's, Laserdisks and LP's these are the 12" laserdisks and records)
heavy duty utility shelving for storing large plastic bins full of parts on.
a king size bed frame with head board and a couple night stands
large picture frames
toaster
toaster oven
coffee maker
cookware
Dressers
rake
Lawnmower (it's fine if it needs a little tlc)

if anyone knows of a business that is giving away alot of that heavy duty steel utility shelving like the kind used in stores and warehouses please send them my way.

i will trade the phone system listed in another post for some decent furniture and shelving.

Please Private Message if you are able to help

Could also try the Alabama Baptist Associations store I dont know about furniture but they may have small appliances, and maybe Tuscaloosa Emergency Services and for cheaper stuff Habitat for Humanity Store has low prices when they have furniture in.
Salvation Army Thrift Store and Alabama Thrift Store Both have low priced items.

might can find all you need at these places for a small amount of money.

OH, and you might advertise the 'exchange for computer services' for those items in the ClassiTides weekly magazine for free, you can even put it in on-line and it is a well-looked at local week;y advertising magazine that sees lots of result. You may even find some of the items you need there, also!

Just a thought.hope this helps since you are new to the area. Good Luck!

Alabama Baptist Associations store - where are these people located and/or what is their phone number. tried to google them with no luck. I would like to check them out.

america's thrift store is more like america's bad joke. they take donations through their 501c3 shell companies and resell it in their for profit store for practically retail prices. i think $400.00 for a used dining room table and chairs that can be had from wal-mart for just a $100.00 more new, and $150.00 for a badly beat up tube type tv set  would classify as thrift. their staff are also very nasty and unwilling to bargain. I would not donate anything to these people. I went to this store one time and have not been back since.

the habitat restore i have been to and they are a real thrift store and very reasonable and very nice people. if you donate to anyone donate to them. I have been to these guys twice now and love the place and the people running it.
